About Us - Education That Saves Lives
Education has been a part of F–M Ambulance Service almost since its inception in 1959 as a private, for-profit company. As the community grew, so did the need for more ambulances and more education. In the late 1990’s, we added our first full time educator. Over the years, our ownership changed from a private owner, to a consortium of all the local hospitals, to being wholly owned by MeritCare Hospital, and now Sanford Health. In that time, we also added more educators, and today’s Sanford EMS Education Department boasts 8 full-time educators and an administrative assistant dedicated to all aspects of pre-hospital emergency medical instruction. We have gone from the occasional class to courses held nearly every day of the year and 12,000 students annually.
